ELCJHL Signs MOU with Palestinian Justice Institute
His Eminence Bishop Dr. Sani Ibrahim Azar visited the Judicial Training Institute in Ramallah, where a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the church and the institute, paving the way for the integration of the church into the Palestinian justice system. The meeting was attended by His Excellency Judge Bilal Abu Hantash, His Excellency Judge Muhammad Al-Ajlouni, Ms. Naila Younis, Director General of Training, Ms. Duaa Al-Khayat, Legal Assistant of the Palestinian Judicial Institute, Ms. Nisreen Al-Barghouthi, Director of the Information Resources Department, and other PJI staff.
His Eminence the Bishop represented the church along with Reverend Ashraf Tannous, President of the Lutheran Church Ecclesiastical Court, Judge Scarlet Bishara, the first female judge in the Lutheran Church Court, and Ms. Ranan Issa, Director of the Gender Justice Ministry. Judge Somoud Damiri joined the church as a representative of Al-Hakimat Council.
The group of church representatives also visited the Supreme Judicial Council, represented by its President, His Excellency Judge A. Muhammad Abd al-Ghani al-Awiwi, where the importance of cooperation between the institutions was emphasized. His Eminence the Bishop expressed his happiness with this historic meeting, hoping for the continuation of this initiative and cooperation. Bishop Azar emphasized that Christians in Palestine are not a minority, but rather an integral part of the Palestinian community.
The ELCJHL is the first church in Palestine to integrate the ecclesiastical court with the Palestinian justice system through training with the Palestinian Justice Institute. Judges for all criminal, military, and Sharia courts receive training with the PJI.
