ELCJHL Schools Hold Reformation Day Activities
Under the patronage of Bishop Dr. Sani Ibrahim Azar, 8th grade students from three of the four Lutheran schools came together at Dar al Kalima Lutheran School today to celebrate Reformation Day.
In his opening speech, Bishop Azar spoke about how proud he is to be a graduate of the Lutheran Schools. He shared the importance of continual reformation in our lives and emphasized how our Lutheran church has continued the work of reformation over the last 500 years. Dar al Kalima Principal Pastor Anton Nassar spoke about the history of Reformation Day and explained how the colors of the students' shirts and the names of the student groups represent the Luther Rose.
ELCJHL Director of Education Mrs. Eva Azar said it was a joy and privilege to have the Lutheran Schools come together in unity, and that their connection as graduates from the Lutheran Schools will last for the rest of their lives. She told students that Reformation Day is an occasion for us to reflect on how we can improve and become better people for our community and our world.
The opening ceremony also included prayers, songs, and performances by students including skits, music, and dabke. Students from Talitha Kumi, Dar al Kalima, and the Evangelical Lutheran School in Beit Sahour then rotated through four themed activities including art, sports, history, and hymns.
Though the Evangelical Lutheran School of Hope in Ramallah was not able to join due to travel restrictions, they will hold their own Reformation Day activities tomorrow.
The day also marked the start of the Reformation Research competition. Over the next few weeks, students will conduct research and prepare projects about which aspects of their school, society, and world they would seek to reform.
We are grateful for the opportunity to bring our students together to celebrate our Lutheran traditions and to keep the spirit of Reformation alive in our schools, our church, and our community.
