ELCJHL Hosts LuthMUN

Under the patronage of Bishop Dr. Sani Ibrahim Azar, the Education Office of the ELCJHL held the 8th Annual Lutheran Model United Nations Conference from August 13-14th in Talitha Kumi Lutheran School. Each year, students from the ELCJHL schools participate in international and national Model United Nations conferences. The LuthMUN is organized and implemented by the ELCHJL’s Educational Ministry specifically to bring the Lutheran students in Palestine together.
This year’s conference was held under the theme of “Building Bridges, Not Walls.” 60 students from across the four Lutheran schools participated as delegates representing 23 countries from around the world in addition to a General Secretary and Vice Secretary.
These students worked together in three committees over the two-day conference to create solutions for the real problems facing our world using skills like public speaking, diplomacy, compromise, leadership, and more. The Security Council focused on confronting the development of nuclear weapons in Iran and addressing the world’s response. The Human Rights Council discussed how to protect the fundamental rights of Palestinian Refugees. And the Environmental Committee worked on defining the role of governments in reducing the threat of plastic pollution to our environment.
Conference organizers also planned an evening of relaxation and icebreaking games for participants to decompress and get to know each other better.
During the closing ceremony, students were awarded Best Delegate, Honorable Mention, and Shout Out. We are so proud of these students and we know they are the bridge builders of tomorrow.
