Over two Sundays in July, 26 young adults in the ELCJHL were confirmed into the church, with 18 being confirmed at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Reformation in Beit Jala and 8 confirmed at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hope in Ramallah.
Each service was unique to the congregation. In Beit Jala, the congregation was treated to music by the church’s choir, a choir that included two of the confirmads. In Ramallah, the lessons and Gospel were conveyed using Sign Language by one of our confirmads, Majdi Mreibe and by Rev. Janne Rissane.
Pastor Mitri Raheb confirmed twelve young people Sunday, May 18, at Lutheran Christmas Church in Bethlehem. On May 4, at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation in Beit Jala, Pastor Jadallah Shihadeh and Ass’t Pastor Saliba Rishmawi confirmed 14 young people, and the Lutheran Church of Hope in Ramallah will hold their confirmation on Sunday, June 1. Ten students of the ELCJHL’s Redeemer Lutheran Church were confirmed today at a special worship service held at the Lutheran Church of the Ascension on the Mt. of Olives Augusta Victoria Compound. During the festive service, the confirmands spoke the creed and prayers together and were confirmed by Bishop Munib Younan, Pastor Sani Ibrahim Azar and Finnish Deacon Tappany.
The Lutheran Church of Hope in Ramallah was bursting at the seams on Sunday, May 7, as almost 20 young people were confirmed during their Sunday morning service. The celebration was heightened by the presence of Bishop Ole Christian Kvarme from the Church of Norway and 5 members of their delegation of deans and staff from the Church of Norway.
The Lutheran Church of the Reformation in Beit Jala was filled to overflowing on April 4, Palm Sunday 2004. The Sunday School children processed into the sanctuary with flowers and palm branches, and sang their praises to God. Flutes, guitar and organ accompanied the singing of the children and a young adult choir as well as the congregational singing.
Bishop Younan and Pastor Jadallah Shihadeh confirmed twelve young people and gave them their first Holy Communion in both elements. (The bread of Holy Communion is given to children but the wine is reserved until after confirmation in the ELCJ.) Following the worship service people greeted the newly-confirmed young people in a receiving line with the bishop and pastor, and a special reception was held.
On Sunday, November 23, 2003, the congregation of the Lutheran Church of Beit Sahour rejoiced with five confirmands who affirmed their baptisms. Bishop Dr. Munib A. Younan confirmed Maher Munir Odeh, Nassim Majed Nassar, Mariana Faraj El-Lati, Lu’ay Iyad Qumsieh and Samir Muhannad Qumsieh in the morning worship service. Evangelist Hani Odeh also participated in the service. The congregation and the newly confirmed young people also received the Eucharist, celebrated by Bishop Younan. Many people warmly congratulated the young people at a reception following the service.
