Bishop Younan travels to Finland for theology symposium, partner meeting

ELCJHL Bishop Munib Younan spoke on the topic of reconciliation at the Feb. 23-24, 2010, theology symposium at the University of Joensuu, Finland. He also met with representatives of the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission, one of the ELCJHL’s international partners. Younan travels regularly to Finland, where he earned his master’s degree in theology in 1976.

ELCJHL observes Reformation Day with ecumenical friends

With Swedish, English, Finnish, Norwegian, German, Arabic and Danish celebrants and participants of many faith traditions, the annual Oct. 31 Reformation Day celebration at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Jerusalem’s Old City maintained its traditional ecumenical and multilingual flavor. Here, Bishop Younan reads the Gospel in Arabic from the midst of the congregation.

Bishop welcomes his first granddaughter

Katharina Nazeeh Khoury was born on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at 8:25 am. She is the daughter of Anna Younan Khoury and Nazeeh Khoury and granddaughter of Suad and Bishop Munib Younan.

Bishop meets Nobel Peace Prize winner

Bishop Munib Younan poses with former Finnish president and 2008 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Martti Ahtisaari at the LWF executive committee meeting in Finland in October 2008. Noting his work as an international mediator, Younan invited Ahtisaari to come to Palestine to mediate a just peace with Israel.

Bishop participates in CRIHL meeting in Lisbon

Bishop visits Sweden, strengthens partnership

Bishop chairs meeting of the Lutheran Council in Asia

ELCJHL Bishop Munib Younan chaired a meeting of the Lutheran Council in Asia in September. LUCAS, as it is called, is “an instrument of the Lutheran communion in Asia to promote the true meaning and the practical implications of being a Lutheran communion and to carry specific tasks on behalf of the region.”
