An undesignated gift of...
$1,000 gives one student a half-tuition scholarship for one year
$2,000 provides a full-tuition scholarship for one year to a student.

An endowed gift of...
$5,000 will provide a $150 scholarship each year.
$15,000 will give a 1/4-tuition scholarship each year.
$60,000 gives the gift of a full-tuition scholarship each and every year!

Since the foundation of the first Lutheran orphanage and educational program for Arab girls in 1851—the first education program for the female youth of Palestine—the Educational Ministries of the ELCJHL have been committed to serving the youth of their communities regardless of gender, race, religion, or ability to pay.

Today, the four k-12 schools administered by the Director of Education Office of the ELCJHL continue in service, educating more than 2,000 students and employing more than 200 full- and part-time educators each year.

However, even with greatly subsidized school tuition rates (ELCJHL School tuition rates cover, on average, only 45% of the total cost per student), many families are unable to afford tuition costs for their children.

Therefore, the ELCJHL Scholarship Fund has been established to provide need-based scholarships to underprivileged students attending ELCJHL Schools in the West Bank.

Each year, scholarship committees within each school evaluate scholarship applications and awards additional tuition scholarships from anywhere between 10-100% of tuition costs to more than 80% of our student population.

But these scholarships are only made possible through gifts to the ELCJHL Scholarship Fund made by individuals, congregations, churches, and businesses such as you.

Gifts to the ELCJHL Scholarship Fund may be designated in one of two ways:

Single gifts up to $5,000 will be utilized on an as-needed basis for current scholarships, administered by the ELCJHL Director of Education Office to be awarded on a yearly basis by the nomination of the scholarship committee of each school.
Gifts larger than $5,000 may be designated as named scholarships within the ELCJHL Scholarship Endowment Fund to provide ongoing scholarship support to underprivileged students attending ELCJHL Schools.

ELCA Global Gift Instructions

There are many Global Gift options through the ELCA, and so following the instructions below will ensure that your gift gets to the ELCJHL Scholarship Fund as quickly and smoothly as possible:

Make your check payable to "The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America"
On the memo line of your check write "ELCJHL Scholarship Fund - Global Gift"
Along with your check send a letter that includes the following information:
- Your name and address
- The dollar amount of your gift
- The designation of your gift to: "ELCJHL Scholarship Fund - Global Gift"
Send all of the above to:
