The ELCJHL has six congregations. You will find information about each of these congregations on other pages in this web site. Each of the six congregations has two or three youth groups, working with children and young people of all ages. These youth groups usually meet at least once a week. Generally speaking, each youth meeting will have a Bible study, singing and different games for the various age groups.
The programs of the youth meetings depend on the age of the group and what the current situation is like in our country. Quite often we must contend with checkpoints, curfews and closures imposed by the Israeli military. All these situations can make it very difficult and sometimes impossible for youth to attend their meetings. The youth groups in the congregations have relations with other ELCJHL youth groups and also with youth groups in churches abroad.
A major activity for congregational youth groups is their contact with overseas youth, particularly in Germany, Scandinavia and the USA. By means of
correspondence and visits with one another, all the youth from Palestine, Jordan
and the other countries are encouraged to be more active in their respective
churches. Their minds are also opened to be learning more about living the
Christian life.
In the ELCJHL there is a Youth Pastor who is, in addition to his work in the congregation, responsible for the youth activities in the whole ELCJHL. At this time the ELCJHL Youth Pastor is Rev. Ramez Ansara, who serves the Lutheran Church of Hope in Ramallah.
The aim of the churchwide youth work is to strengthen the relationships between the youth of all six congregations. The Youth Pastor and his Youth Committee, which is elected by the synod, have the following responsibilities:
